'A' Meets have a more limited line-up, but nevertheless involve a large number of team members. Almost anyone can swim or dive in a 'B' meet, and coaches often use 'B' meet performance to round out the 'A' meet line-up.
Note, however, that swimmers become ineligible for a B meet once they have 'placed' - come 1st or 2nd - in ANY event at an A swim meet (except for relays and heat 2 events). Divers become ineligible for B meets if they have placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd in an "A" dive meet.
