Questions I have been asked most often about PRST

March 2009

1) What is the Pound Ridge Swim and Dive Team program?

The Swim and Dive Team program is a multi-tiered program. The A are B teams are competitive swim and dive teams. The Little Dolphins is a pre-team and as swimmers progress through this program, they are encouraged to join the A and B teams.  The swim team is coached by Christopher Dewey. The Head Dive Coach is Katie Simco.

2) What are the fees for the swim and dive team?

The fees are 70 Dollars per family for your children on the A and B teams.

3) Where do we have to be and when? (tryouts/practice/meets/meetings) (tryouts/practice/meets/meetings)

Swim Team tryouts are being held in June (watch the website for details), but can be scheduled as needed for new swimmers (see head coach). Preseason swim team practice starts in early June, Monday through Friday for the A and B teams. This practice runs through June 25th. The regular season practice starts on TBA for all ages.
Diving preseason practice will begin TUESDAY June 9th- M-F 5-6pm for B team and 6-7pm for A team M-F. The regular season practice will start TBA. The A Diving team will practice 5-7:30, B Diving Team White Group practices M,W,F 5-6 and B Diving Team Green Group practices T, TH 5-6(See bulletin board for groups or ask Katie)
A full Meet Schedule will be published in the Swim Team Handbook. (and on this website)There are 5 regular season competitive Dual meets for the A Swim and Dive Teams. Occasionally we attend or host an A team invitational. There is one regular meeting on the last day of school. This year on TBD the coaches will host a Pizza party at 12pm at the Pavilion at the Pound Ridge Park

4) What do I have to buy, how do I get it and where do I get it?

Team swimsuits and caps are required attire for the A and B team members. Fittings will be held at the tryouts. Contact Traci Jacobson 764-3760 to purchase a new swimsuit, cap or goggles. The swim suits are the same as last year's suits.
Bathing caps are mandatory for girls and boys with long hair. Swimming goggles are also recommended.

5) Who are coaches and how do I communicate with them?

Head Swim Coach - Christopher Dewey worldwidedewey@aol.com

Head Diving Coach - Katie Simco 764-5632 KSIMCO@YAHOO.COM

For more contacts, see "Contacts page"

6) Who runs the meets?

The Parent Volunteers. So, if you want to help out, contact Roxane Wasserman 764-9393! We are always looking for more volunteers.

7) What can I do for my child(ren) and their team?

The Pound Ridge Swim and Dive Team derives its support exclusively from parent volunteers. Each year we solicit the help of all parents to assist your children with fundraisers, Yearbook picture taking, trophies, boosters, transportation, league representation and publicity. Then there are the meets that need parent volunteers for timing, scoring, ribbon writing, announcing, meet setup and takedown for home meets, concession stand and equipment management. The Swim and Dive Teams cannot function without the on-going support of the parent volunteers. Please come out and support your swimmers and divers.

8) How will I be notified of changes and updates?

Communication during the preseason is always difficult, as the team roster is not complete. We rely on the parents of the older swimmers to assist in the communication process during this time, as procedures generally do not change from year to year. The website is a main form of communication for the swim team, so be sure to check it regularly!
After to the July 4th weekend, each family of the Swim and Dive Team will receive a PRST handbook. The handbook contains lots of great information. Please contact Roxane Wasserman if there are any discrepancies.

9) How do the children move up through the "The Ranks?"

Throughout the tryouts and the practices prior to the regular season, the coaches assess the abilities of the swimmers and divers that attend. Children are placed on the appropriate teams (A or B) or in the "Little Dolphin" program. Advancement is based: 1) on ability and, 2) the needs of the team. Placement is solely at the discretion of the coaching staff.

9) What are the events that the children swim and what is the order
